Dear Respected Senior Account Relationship Manager

Greetings to you, esteemed and respected senior account relationship manager at Société Atlantique de Banque, Côte d’Ivoire. My name is Mr Kumalo Adebayo of the Nigerian royal family.

My uncle Mr Ayudele Adebayo of Abidjan is recently deceased of infected wounds inflicted by the horns of an unsanitised bull. As my late uncle’s sole heir, I humbly request that a cheque for the full amount of my uncle’s fortune be drawn and provided to me at your earliest convenience.

Superior regards

HRH Mr Kumalo Adebayo
Prince of Taraba

Dear Mr Kumalo Adebayo

We regret to inform you that you are unable to claim your uncle’s grand fortune of 108 billion West African CFA Francs (USD 184.608.720).

Côte d’Ivoire succession laws prevent the inheritance of any monetary amount by a person who possesses noble status in another country. The law requires that your uncle’s fortune instead be claimed by any other person with an excellent credit rating. If the fortune is not claimed by a person within 28 business days of your uncle’s death, it must be forfeited to the Government of Côte d’Ivoire. I do not mean to be obstructive, but these laws exist to protect innocent deceased persons from arbitrary and oppressive actions by foreign nobles.

Yours faithfully

Pascal Doumbia

Dear Mr Kumalo Adebayo

PRIVILEGED AND CONFIDENTIAL

We refer to an electronic mail message purportedly sent by or on behalf of a person of the hereinbefore mentioned name.

Whilst we cannot express an absolute view on any legal matter, we consider that the interpretation of Côte d’Ivoire law proffered by the Société Atlantique de Banque (the Interpretation) may conceivably be correct. This is not an unqualified opinion: it is entirely conceivable that the Interpretation may not be correct, or indeed that it may be situated anywhere on a notional spectrum of potential correctness spanning from ‘relatively unlikely to be correct’ to ‘relatively likely to be correct’.

The aforedescribed incertitude notwithstanding, our suggested course is to seek a trusted person who is of excellent credit rating and who is not of royal status. At that person’s direction, we propose to establish a fixed trust structure through which the monies may be paid to your nominee. We estimate that our fees in this matter will not exceed USD$10,000.

Yours faithfully

Gentlemen

Humble apologies for the spam, but I need to find a commoner with an excellent credit rating (see above). The only people I know are either noble or untrustworthy. Any ideas?

K, HRH

Dear Great and Most Respected One

APOLOGIES FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE

My name is Mr Kumalo Adebayo, Prince of Taraba, Duke of Calabar, Sovereign Grand Master of the Illustrious Order of Naval Merit, Protector of the International Order of the Liberator-General and First Class Grand Knight of the Order of the Excellent Chrysanthemum.

Please, kindly pardon me for any inconvenience this letter may cause you. I know you are a person of great esteem, as I humbly selected your name from the International Website Register due to its trustworthy nature and your superior credit scores.

My uncle died a week ago in the Ivory Coast and left me a grand fortune of 108 billion West African CFA Francs (USD 184.608.720). However, the laws of Côte d’Ivoire prevent me claiming it due to my noble status in another country and the government will seize the money soon. I have no friends or relations who can help me.

Therefore I humbly beg your assistance to withdraw the funds into your account, prostrating and abasing myself to the very limits of self-degradation as I grovel before your excellent credit rating and trustworthy nature. As a token of your undoubted bona fides, I request that you provide US$10.000 to my lawyer Victor Chukwu, Esq. to establish a fixed trust structure for future payment of the monies to me. I propose that when you later transfer the funds from your account into my fixed trust structure, you keep USD $90 million (almost half) of the fortune as payment for your generous and honest kindness.

Utmost splendid regards

HRH Mr Kumalo Adebayo
Prince of Taraba
